AAFRO Tutoring Program
Are you interested in volunteering for the AAFRO Tutoring Program?
Volunteers are an important part of the Australian African Foundation for Retention and Opportunity organisation. AAFRO appreciates the fantastic contribution our volunteers create and the effort they do to increase the welfare of vulnerable children, young people, and families.
Why Volunteer?
Volunteering with the AAFRO Tutoring Program provides opportunities to work with children and young people from cultural and linguistical diverse including those who newly arrived in Australia from refugees, asylum seekers and migrant backgrounds. Volunteers help primary and secondary school students with their studies including homework.
What is the program schedule?
Tutoring takes place on Saturdays from 10-1PM
Volunteers are required donate at least 3 hours a week
Tutoring sessions are held in the Westen Suburbs of Melbourne.

What is the application process?
Check our volunteering page for vacancies
Cpply for a role and include at least a 100- word statement outlining your background, skills, and experience.
You will be asked to attend an interview once your application is successful.
We will inform you of the outcome and weather you are successful in the role
What are the essential criteria?
Be 18 years old or above
Willing to undertake a Working with Children and police check
Willing to provide referees checks
One hundred to three hundreds written words about you, and the reason you chose to volunteer at AAFRO.
High level English language skills, including grammar and fluency
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a small group of students
Understanding of the challenges facing students from a non-English speaking background
What are the expectations?
Punctuality and reliability
Initiative and ability to work independently
An interest in social inclusion and education
Patience, especially in facilitating student learning
Willingness to work under the guidance and direction of tutoring program leader
Ability to establish and maintain clear boundaries in facilitating educational support
Willingness to travel independently to the AAFRO Tutorial place for volunteering
Availability for a minimum three hours per week during each week of the program
What are your rights and responsibilities towards children and young people?
Our child safe and wellbeing policy and code of conduct ensure that AAFRO provide a safe environment for our volunteers and tutors. We ensure that our volunteers are also committed to the safety of children and young people including cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Straits Islanders children, those from cultural and linguistically diverse, and children with a disability.
